Signs & Effects Of Anemia

Effects Of Anemia are a result of a condition in which the red blood cells are not working as efficient as they should be and as a result cannot supply the body with enough oxygen that is needed. There are three main deficiency types of anemia including:

1. Vitamin B12 deficiency
2. Folate deficiency

3. Iron deficiency

If a person is lacking any of these important vitamins, it means the red blood cells throughout the body are not supplied with the correct amount of vitamins to work as efficiently as possible. As a result, the red blood cells cannot keep up with the body’s demand of oxygen. Signs of anemia depend on exactly which sub type you have, but there are some general symptoms that a person may experience including:

  • fatigue
  • pale skin
  • shortness of breath
  • chest pain
  • dizziness
  • coldness in hands/feet.

These effects of anemia that a person may experience can decrease quality of life and really interrupt your daily activities.

Iron replacement therapy is a gold standard for treatments of anemia. Iron is available in many different forms and for severe cases it can be given through an IV. More commonly, iron is taken as tablets, usually three times a day with meals. This will ensure that your body is receiving enough iron to keep red blood cells saturated with iron and oxygen. When you take iron through tablets, it is best to take them with a meal because they can cause some stomach irritation. Taking them with food will help to settle your stomach’s reactions to the iron.

One main side effect associated with iron replacement therapy is constipation. Constipation can be overcome by taking a laxative, increasing fiber intake or lowering the amount of iron taken on a daily basis. There are tests for anemia that will analyze your blood work to diagnose if you may or may not  have any forms of anemia especially if you are experiencing Effects Of Anemia.

It is important to be aware of the signs and effects of anemia in case the condition may cross your path, this way you will be prepared for it. The treatment is often simple with iron supplements via tablets everyday.
