Why Must You Keep Kids Away From Junk Foods

Introduction: Junk foods are those species of fast food items that are very high in calories but very low in nutritional value. Although they are indeed health hazards, especially for children who taken them instead of their regular diet, they are very popular since they are conveniently available, very tasty and palatable and could be continuously stuffed, without a feeling of fullness. While junk food may be popular, they are major health hazards and the less consumed by kids, the better for their overall health and well being.

We must keep kids away from junk food because it could detrimentally impact studies and academic performance: High calorie foods like chips, French fries, cola, soda and soft drinks tend to impact concentration, memory and mental state conducive for studies. Most kids who consume a lot of these tend to be overweight, or obese, always tired and lagging behind in academics.  But there are also kids who remain alert, attentive and study well despite being junk food prone. A lot of course, would depend on externalities, body type and other factors. However, health research studies on junk food are of the unanimous opinion that junk food detrimentally affects brain functions and could cause mental impairment over time.

We must keep kids away from junk food because it gives rise to obesity, which, in turn, could cause high risk conditions and diseases like diabetes, high cholesterol, heart diseases, arthritis and fat related ailments, even cancer, in certain cases.

The high sodium, sugar and carbohydrate contents in junk food could be major causes for adverse health conditions and diseases, even in kids. Worse still, substitution junk food for regular and staple nutritional diet which most kids indulge in, is very dangerous and could have long term health impacts. Obesity is a known trouble maker and this sets even dangerous precedents for kids, no matter how healthy they otherwise, are.

We must keep kids away from junk food because it has low or even zero nutrient value and even stunts normal growth in growing children: What children need during their growing and formative years are great deal of protein, vitamins, irons, minerals and other essentials which are imperative for mental and physical growth. These are gained, in good measure, from well balanced meal of whole wheat, dairy products, fresh vegetables and fruits, nuts and salads. Junk food does not have any of the active ingredients needed for healthy and well balanced diet and thus causes more harm than good.

We must keep kids away from junk food since if they become accustomed to it, it would be difficult to switch them back to homemade and nutritious diets: Parents often tend to ignore the fast and junk food preferences of young kids, thinking they would outgrow these as they grow older and wiser. They could never have been more wrong. Junk food ingestion is addictive and only gets stronger over time. Parents must arrest this menacing trend before it grows too strong and stubborn and ruins the health of their children and kids.

Conclusion: Junk food does more harm than good, and although it does temporarily relieve hunger pangs, what it really does it make consumers feel more hungry and ravenous, make them indulge in more junk food eating. Kids should be informed and warned about the evils of eating junk food and need to be weaned away from it, preferably from the time they start speaking, lest they cause serious harm and health hazards to themselves, later on.
